Green & Ronsen

The New Music Co-op Presents:

Willow Street Spring Concert Series

Jacob Green w/ Josh Ronsen - "Controlled Feedback"
Friday, March 25th - 8pm
1010 Willow Street

Over the last few years Jacob Green has began working live feedback into many of his performances. Utilizing a unique feature of his synthesizer, he treats an incoming signal as a constantly changing sample which can be played back through a variety of filters and evolving loops. In addition to using external sounds, the electronics can also amplify itself internally. Green used to be afraid of this setting because it is much harder to control - it's like running the output of a mixer back into the same input that is being amplified. But thanks to recordings by musicians like Otomo Yoshihide, Sachiko M, Toshimaru Nakemura, Keith Rowe, and Arcane Device, he was inspired to keep working with in this area. The resulting sounds can be described as "raw" and "pure". After a solo feedback set by Jacob Green, Josh Ronsen will join him in duo diffusing material from Green's solo set.

Jacob Green is a member of the Austin New Music Co-op, Gates Ensemble, and brekekekexkoaxkoax (with Josh Ronsen). Aside from various ongoing improvisation combos Jacob also has a band with Brent Fariss called Frontal Spanking which should be hitting Top 40 radio some time in the future. But his main project is his own solo work and watching as many movies as possible.

Josh Ronsen is a musician, artist, writer and publisher. His recent activities include destroying 100 Pierre Boulez records, printing a pamphlet on Mail Art, performing and recording with the brekekekexkoaxkoax group (with Jacob Green, Genevieve Walsh and Glen Nuckolls) and interviewing Anthony Coleman and Eric Cordier. He is currently working on an opera, a collection of one minute operas, and a new online music publication.
