Brent Fariss

The New Music Co-op Presents:

Willow Street Fall 2004 Concert Series

Brent Fariss - solo and in ensemble with guests
Friday, October 15 - 8pm
1010 Willow Street

Brent Fariss performs a rare solo contrabass set, a percussion/bass duet, and premieres a new work, Caesura. Caesura is a "song cycle" featuring an additive ensemble in which there are no words or voices. The piece seeks to focus on the intentional interruptions in a natural sound environment that is often the case in musical performance. Joining Fariss will be Nick Hennies (percussion), Josh Ronsen (clarinet), Jacob Green (oboe), and Travis Weller (violin).

Brent Fariss has collaborated in several modern music ensembles including ThomFariCraw, Austin New Music Co-op, Gates Ensemble, Araxia Trio, and the Imbroglio String Quartet. He has also contributed to music for plays (Lust Supper) and silent films (Jean Cocteau's "Blood of a Poet", Harry Smith's "Early Abstractions", Ken Jacobs' "Seeing is Believing"), and has released several CDs on the label, Spectral House, that he runs along with Bill Thompson. He holds a Master's degree in Composition from Texas State University, where he also studied the contrabass.
