Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer Lily Maase will be performing at the Austin New Music Co-op's Willow Street series on Sunday, September 9 as part of a tour through the Southwest and Midwest in support of her new album, "unbind." A graduate of the University of North Texas's esteemed Jazz Studies program, Maase has received an endorsement from Montreal's award-winning Godin Guitars, performed and recorded as a jazz, classical, and rock guitarist, and established herself as a highly sought-after private instructor and adventurous composer.

In spring 2006 Lily premiered hall.of.mirrors--music for double quintet and improvised film at the CAVEgallery in Brooklyn, New York and reworked the same repertoire for re:Disconnect, which premiered at Roulette in SoHo the following September. While a guest composer at the 2006 Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, Lily was commissioned to write and record music for electro-acoustic chamber ensemble. She received a scholarship to attend the Workshop two years running, where she studied with Mark Dresser, Dave Douglas, Susie Ibarra, Greg Osby and several other professional musicians. Her 2006 residency as a guest composer was at the personal invitation of director Dave Douglas.

Lily currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she composes, teaches, and performs regularly in Manhattan, Montreal and beyond. She performs regularly with Walter Thompson's international Soundpainting orchestra, Christian Pincock's electro-acoustic ensemble Cadmium Lace, Toli Almasi's Femm Nameless, and her own ensembles; tours nationally with all-girl jazz sensations the Lascivious Biddies; and is a founding member of the Addtract Consortium, a composer's collective, creative advisory, and education initiative dedicated to growing organic music in a digital age.
